Welcome to Second Grade! I am excited to be part of the Catholic Academy family. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Childhood and Exceptional Education and my Master's Degree in Literacy and Early Childhood Education. I am a new mother to twin boys, Tristan and Sebastian. My interests include travelling, photography, crafting, spending time with my babies, friends, family and camping.
Mission Routines are an essential component in preparing for a successful year. Every day in our room we follow the same general routine. My classroom is one that reflects relevant teaching and learning, and I encourage my students to take an active role in their learning. Lessons will provide students with hands on experiences, which will enhance their ability to take in information and learn. In order to instill Christian values I encourage positive interactions and cooperation between all students.
The second grade curriculum is based on the Common Core Standards and the Diocese of Buffalo Standards. Our subject areas include: Religion, Reading, Writing Workshop, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science. STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) will play an important part of our daily instruction. I encourage parents to check out the Second Grade Common Core Standards at www.engageny.org.
The supplies that your child will need in second grade will be purchased by me at wholesale prices. This plan will help to ensure that each child has the necessary supplies on the first day of school and hopefully save you some time and money.
This fee will be collected on the first day of school and your child will receive his or her school supplies. The following money and supplies are needed by the first day of school Thursday, September 7th:
• $30.00 for ALL classroom supplies
• $7.50 for Scholastic News and Science Spin Subscription
• An art smock or oversized t-shirt
• 3 boxes of Kleenex
• 2 containers of Clorox wipes
• 2 Take Home Folders
Thank you for your cooperation! I hope that this helps alleviate some of the back to school stress. I hope that all of you have a fun and safe summer vacation and I look forward to seeing you and your child in September.
