Mrs. Zahradnik's Page

My name is Leah Zahradnik, and this is my third year teaching Physical Education at Catholic Academy...minus coming in late in the year my first year, and being out on maternity leave last year. I also teach Phys. Ed. at St. Peter School in Lewiston! This is my first full-time job as a teacher, but before that I substituted for a number of years in Utah, at the Lewiston Porter School District, and at the Royalton Hartland School District. Being raised in public school, I have very much enjoyed teaching at a Catholic school, where I can celebrate and share my love of Catholic faith.

I am married with one child; a beautiful son who is almost 1 year old! I hope that one day he will attend a Catholic school and reap the benefits that I see my students receiving. I obtained my Undergraduate Degree in Education from SUNY Oswego, and completed my Masters at Canisius College. In addition, I have a minor in coaching from Oswego, and have also studied personal training.

Of course, I love sports. I was the captain of my Swimming and Diving team in College at Oswego. From a very young age, I learned how to sail and I have competed since the age of 12. My husband and I own a racing sailboat, and we travel to compete in various regattas throughout the year. I enjoy snowboarding in the wintertime, a sport I have also participated in since I was very young. Now I love coaching sports just as much, or maybe even more than I love playing them! I have coached Soccer, Swimming, Sailing, Snowboarding, and Track for various schools and entities.

My goal is for the students to enjoy PE, but also gain important skills that they can use as they grow, by learning to play and communicate effectively with others. We focus on the fundamentals and skills of child development, as well as components of popular sports. They also receive instruction in character education, and problem-solving techniques. I love working with the children at Catholic Academy, and I am proud to be part of its family! I look forward to another great year!
